#69 Go have Rolling Stone’s Top 100 albums in my iPod

October 7, 2008

(accomplished October 7, 2008)

I got all the Top 100 albums in my iPod!  I had most of the top 25 already but the rest are a lot of bands that I had always heard of but never heard.  Now I just have to take the time to listen to them.

I think I will share my personal list of Top 10 or 25 soon, maybe even later today…I’m not sure how I would begin to do my own 100.

On a personal note, I’m noticing that I haven’t been posting up a lot of photos.  I love photos but I find it hard to use on wordpress.  I would like then to have a uniform size if possible (al least one of the sides should always be the same) but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.  I’ll try to work on that.

#94 Go see a show at least once a month…been going to a lot of shows lately…

September 30, 2008

(accomplished October 1, 2008)

Since this was one that really had now timeline to finish, other than then end of the 1001 days, I am declaring it officially done!  I’ve been going to tons of shows lately and am sure to continue but I’m satisfied that I’ve finished this goal.

AFI’s 100 Years…100 Films

September 10, 2008

I am posting the list of all AFI’s 100 Years…100 Films that I am supposed to see to fulfill my #71 Go see all the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Films for my 101 in 1001.  I am chosing to use the 1998 list rather than the 2007 list because, quite simply, I think that the 2007 list is weak and most of the new additions will not stand the test of time.  I’ll be adding them all the Netflix asap.  I think I also may combine this with #34 Go host a movie marathon.

#74 Go read Hillary Clinton’s Living History

August 5, 2008

(accomplished August 4, 2008)

I finished Living History at work today.  I feel like it is more interesting as a work of history rather than a well-written biography if that makes any sense.  Some parts were taken directly from It Takes a Village.  I enjoyed it to get a better insight on Clinton’s view of situtations I had know of growing up but nothing was too revealing.  I’m going to think about this some more and write something better later.

#39 Go donate to a candidate I believe in

July 8, 2008

Obama for America

(accomplished July 7, 2008)

So I have donated to Hillary before.  I love her and the Clintons.

But yesterday, I decided to donate to Barack.  I do like him, have liked him, hope he can deliver on what he has promised (I’m already seeing some signs that this is questionable).  I’ve never been against him, just for someone else.  I think he can do well for our country and I’m hoping that he will have some good people in his corner to support him in the November elections.

I need a win here people!

#49 Go walk across the Golden Gate Bridge

July 8, 2008
Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge

 (accomplished July 6, 2008)

I was in San Francisco for the 4th of July weekend.  I had a great time!

Drove with A to Modesto first so go to a friend’s BBQ.  I hadn’t seen him in ages so it was really good to be there.  Great, massive spread of food, drinks, and a pool.

Spent some time at the new pad in Pacific Heights.  Nice neighborhood.  I hope to spend more time here.  Saw some more friends and just explored.

Wandered a bit and then remembered that walking across the Golden Gate Bridge was on my 101 list!  Took about 1hour 45 minutes for the round trip and the weather was a bit windy and chilly but I did it!

Where to take visitors in LA

June 17, 2008

Recently, I have been trying to come up with ideas of places in LA to take out of towners in.  I know there are some traditional spots to take people but these aren’t the places that I want to show them (I think Venice is kind of gross and definitely overrated).  I have decided that LA is a great place to live, but not necessarily visit, so my choices vary.  This is a work in progress but here are places that I want to highlight in Southern California.  Some traditional and some not so much.

Attractions:

  • The Getty
  • Disneyland
  • MOCA
  • BCAM
  • Cinespia
  • Zuma Beach
  • Griffith Park
  • Huntington Library
  • Dockweiler Beach for bonfires and airplanes

Food:

  • King Taco
  • Langer’s
  • Father’s Office
  • Samnamlung Cafe
  • Soot Bull Jeep
  • T.O.T.
  • Pink’s
  • Homegirl Cafe
  • Crepe in the Grip
  • In-N-Out
  • Cielto Lindo
  • Earthen
  • Ocean Star dim sum
  • Paradise Cove
  • Pinkberry (not sure about this one)
  • any taco truck
  • any hot dog cart
  •

Drink:

  • Tiki Ti
  • The Edison (weeknights only people!)
  • Redwood Bar
  • Red Lion
  • Star Shoes
  • Library Bar
  • Cosmos
  • The Standard roof bar

Desert Island Albums

June 13, 2008

At this moment in time, these are my 10 “desert island” albums, the 10 that I could listen to forever, in no particular order:

  1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Lauryn Hill
  2. The Man Who, Travis
  3. Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys
  4. Up the Bracket, The Libertines
  5. Parklife, Blur
  6. OK Computer, Radiohead
  7. Automatic for the People, R.E.M.
  8. London Calling, The Clash
  9. Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan
  10. Odelay, Beck

It’s a little hard to decide on the rest…I want to bring a Best of Morrissey and the Marie Antoinette soundtrack but I don’t think they can count.  The list should just be perfect albums…no compilations and no skips.
